Event Report of The 16th Annual Year 12 Muslim Achievement Awards Hosted by Human Appeal Australia

Human Appeal Australia is a non-profit humanitarian organisation that works to alleviate poverty and suffering around the world. The organisation has a strong focus on education and youth development and is committed to empowering young Muslims to achieve their full potential.

The Annual Year 12 Muslim Achievement Awards is an event organised by Human Appeal Australia to recognize and celebrate the academic and personal achievements of Muslim students who have completed their Year 12 studies. The event aims to encourage and inspire Muslim youth to strive for excellence in their academic pursuits and personal development.

The awards ceremony is held annually and is open to all Muslim students who have completed their HSC with an Atar of 90 or above. Awards were presented to every student attending that night and the sponsors and ambassadors were also awarded for being there to support the event. Many community leaders, inspirational figures and community members there spoke to encourage the youth and also guide them for what they can do not just for charity, but for how to move forward with their lives going into uni and their adult life.

The event is attended by prominent community leaders, educators, and many important guests who come together to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of Muslim students. The program provided a platform for these students to showcase their talents, share their stories, and inspire others to follow in their footsteps.

The programme was opened by event hosts; Br Omar Al-Jamal and Sr Raghda Assoum. Then the programme started with a recitation by Sheikh Khaled Zraykah. 


After Br Bashar Al-Jamal, Director of Human Appeal Australia welcomed all the dignitaries including ambassadors from various Muslim countries. He also thanked all the sponsors who financially supported the event. He mentioned over 292 million dollars were raised and distributed by Human Appeal since 1992 to needy ones across the globe. There were video presentations played to highlight the outstanding efforts of Human Appeal in times of tragedy and turmoil, displaying the power of community and support. 

All the high achiever students who got ATAR 90 plus were given the opportunity to apply for the award. These 234 students were selected to receive awards. Every high achiever student was awarded a certificate and an iPad. 

Later Mr Jihad Dib MP, State Parliament Member for Lakemba, congratulated all high achievers and reminded the students that it’s also their responsibility to take the community forward into a better era for themselves and others. 

Br Omar Al-Jamal talked about Leadership Umrah Tour where selected university students are taken on a 2-and-a-half-week overseas trip including Makkah, Madina, Turkey and many other places. After that, a video documentary was shown to let attendees have a taste of the trip followed by a tour participant Br Omar Al Zeidat-Umrah shared his experience of the trip. 

After the Maghrib prayer and delicious dinner, one of the high achievers, Br Imran Abdu from James Ruse High School addressed the audience. He attained 99.80 in HSC. He shared his experience being in the school as a Vice Captain and young leader. 

Overall, the Annual Year 12 Muslim Achievement Awards is a significant event that celebrates the achievements of Muslim students and inspires them to continue their journey of personal growth and academic excellence.
